How to change your travel preferences for leads
Your travel preferences affect the leads you receive and determine the exposure your profile gets in search results. You should select the maximum distance you’re willing to feasibly travel.
You can calculate your travel distance in three different ways:
- Time: This is the drive time from your location using actual driving routes.
- Distance: This is the distance in miles from your location using actual driving routes.
- Radius: This is an aerial radius from your location, ignoring actual driving routes.
A map will be shown below your selections so you can see a visualization of your coverage.
To change your travel preference by location:

- Log in to your control panel and go to Edit PromoKit.

- Under Lead Preferences, select Location and Travel from the menu.

- Click Edit Travel Preferences on the location you want to change.

- Choose how you want to measure your travel distance — by time, distance, or radius — and make your selections.

- Click Save.
If you’ve purchased multiple locations for your profile, you will need to edit your travel preferences for each location. Any location without a custom travel preference saved will use your default travel preference.
Category travel preferences
If you have some services for which you are willing to travel further or won’t travel as far, you can set specific travel preferences for those categories.
Categories with no specific preferences will use the default or custom travel preference set for your location(s).
Important: You only need to add travel preferences for categories that need to be different from your location-specific preference.
To add travel preference by category:

- Log in to your control panel and go to Edit PromoKit.

- Under Lead Preferences, select Location and Travel from the menu.

- Scroll down to Category Travel Preferences and click to expand your category-specific preferences.

- Find the category you want to adjust and click Add Travel Preferences.

Choose how you want to measure your travel distance — by time, distance, or radius — and make your selections.
If you have multiple locations, choose the one you want from the dropdown. If you want it saved for more than one, you'll need to save your category-specific preference for each location individually. - 6

Default travel preference
Before January 2024, you could only save an aerial radius travel preference. That setting will be considered your default travel preference until a new custom preference has been saved for any of your locations or categories.
New members who just joined will also be given a default travel preference of 120 miles (aerial radius).
Other considerations
When setting your travel preferences, there are a few additional things to consider to ensure you're only getting the leads you want.
Nationwide travel
Pro & Featured members may set a "Nationwide" travel distance. All other members are limited to 200 miles. You should only choose nationwide or any other large travel radius if you are genuinely open to traveling that far for a gig. Setting a distance that's further than you're likely to travel will result in having to decline leads, which isn't helpful to you or the event planners. Be honest and accurate.
Pro tip: If you require clients to pay a travel fee in order to travel beyond a certain distance, you should include those details somewhere within your profile — perhaps with your overview or fee range.
Out-of-country leads
GigSalad operates in the United States and Canada, meaning clients can search and request quotes from either country. If you live in an area near the border and do not wish to receive leads outside of your country, you may adjust that setting at the bottom of the Location & Travel page under International Leads.
Troubleshooting
We use an API to load the map visualization tool, which may have trouble loading occasionally. If you encounter this error, it will prevent you from saving your travel preferences. When this happens, all you usually need to do is refresh the page so the map can reload.
